The War HOGG Self Eval is a great way to evaluate your marksmanship ability going into the new year. The video shows how to set up the drill, however you can modify the drill however you want and what your range allows.
A pro timer is a critical component to this drill, it will give you 12 pieces of data that can be used to improve your marksmanship skill.
Shot 1 is your time from the ready position or draw from the holster if your range allows
Shot 2&3 are your split (Shot to shot) times for that target
Shot 4 is your target index time
Shot 5&6 is your splits on the new target
Shot 7 is your speed magazine change time
Shot 8&9 is your split time on that target
Shot 10 is your target index time
Shot 11&12 is your split times for the last target.
I would do two things to enhance this drill. One, use your phone to record your self eval and take a photo of your targets. This way you can go back and see exactly what you are doing. Second is have a training notebook and record each 12 shots in your notebook. This way you can see how your next eval is improving and where you need to work on.
This drill will give you a lot of information, don't get overwhelmed, take each shot and break it down. For example look at your speed magazine change time and work on your magazine changes dry fire to become more efficient.
