Probably one of the most overlooked items when it comes to self defense, is ammo selection for your firearm. Weather you are a new firearms owner or an experienced shooter make sure you fully understand the capabilities of the ammunition you are carrying for self defense.

If you are carrying a firearm for personal protection it is important you understand the capabilities of the ammo you are carrying. I conducted a test demo on ballistic gelatin with a 9mm full metal jacket (FMJ) round and a 9mm monolithic hollow point bullet. This test showed me the over penetration of FMJ round and the potential to hit someone on the other side of the threat.

Another point to consider is what is the muzzle flash of the ammo you are using. The video below is from a War HOGG Low Light Pistol course where is have the student fire two rounds of their carry ammo and two rounds of regular range ammo. Notice the difference in the muzzle flash. Have you tested your carry ammo for both penetration and low light muzzle flash?

Let me know what you think. Feel free to forward this blog to your friends.
